He's a bloody amazing guitarist, a damn decent vocalist, the only three-time inductee into the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame. The why he made blues sound, the why he changed it, is why he's considered the Godfather of Blues.

i think its mostly because of way he plays the guitar and makes it sound. its makes the guitar weep pretty much. and he has really good songs and guitar solos. theres probibly more to it then just that lol

what do you mean by best? because after 7 years of playing guitar i can play hendrix flawlessly and much more then he ever could.... but i do agree with you about jeff beck... what about yngwie malmsteen and jeff loomis and paul gilbert and if your going for most all around skilled... deff chris brodrick... what about keith merrow and many many more.... i hate when people use the term best... i love all of the work done by both of them... but they are not the best.... most skilled? no there are many guitarists that sound better and shred 50x faster with less mistakes while bieng able to do things jimi never belived in. the term best is stupid... most popular? most definitively. buuuut kurt hammit is the most popular metal guitarist and most poeple that play agree that he sucks ass... so it all comes down to the fact that noone has ever compaired all of them and come up with a "best"
