Okay, so I know abso-fucking-lutely nothing about military terminology, so if you kill, be quick. Isn't anyone who fights in war as part of an organized "team" a soldier?
*brace for red-thumbs*

I wouldn't red thumb you for that, and thank you for asking so politely. It is a pride thing, inter-service rivalry. Marine's are slightly different than soldiers. Sometimes referred to as "sea soldiers," or "soldiers of the sea." However, we like to distinguish ourselves from the army, we are Marines.

Marines are Marines. They, like soldiers, are warriors, but they are Marines. They are in the Marine Corps. Soldiers are in the Army. They use different weapons and employ different tactics, and their respective organizations have been assigned different missions.

since when are marines not soldiers?
User avatar #584 to #578 - Vidablo (06/27/2012) [-]
since forever, army is soldiers, Marines are Marines. Not a big deal, just letting everyone know, and knowledge is half the battle. . .the other half is violence :D

Anyone part of the military is a soldier whether he's part of the marines, air force, army, or navy. However the branches can have more specific names for individuals such as marine or sailor
User avatar #593 to #588 - Vidablo (06/27/2012) [-]
no, if you are in the navy you are a sailor, if you are in the airforce you are an air men.
