1. I jokingly stated that Amon is a robot, and went on with that as a joke

I disagree. Korra had an original story, great artwork and intense action scenes and could have stood alone and did well. Besides, Bendingtime came with Korra, not with TLA, even though it was a very good series, too.

Lok also had great other things...

I just felt generally underwhelmed by much of it and alot of the plot points felt either too rushed or never really resolved.

It was also only PLANNED to be a 12 episode miniseries, not like the original series which was planned to have 4 seasons.

Yeah exactly thats mostly why it seems that it mostly gets interesting when the original cast appears, because korra is a simple spin off that wasn't written to have its own large plot, I also feel thats why many of the characters aren't really as well developed as they should be, the writers didn't intend to use them for very long.
