I liked Avatar but I don't think it's genius... it's extraordinary in the technological sense, yes. If only the plotline lived up to it...

Yeah, I mean, there's no denying the technological achievement, and I respect the fact that people liked it, but it was way too reliant on that technology. I wish that someone would come along and make a technological achievement that also had a great plot again, like what Blade Runner was. But alas, these are only dreams.

Thank you for listing Blade Runner. That is I think THE most underappreciated movie of the 80's. So few people today know about it...

Personally, I think that if you had to choose between a good plot and technology, you should ALWAYS go for the good plot. Problem is, that takes to make excellent artistic movies, but not ones that sell. C4 and DD+, that's what sells. Movies like, say, Solaris... brilliant movie, absolutely stunning. But if it were released today, it would be a box office flop.

Another classic that people are forgetting is 2001: Space Odyssey. I mean, that once again was one of those films that combined technological mastery and an outstanding script. But you're right, movies like that would be complete flops these days. The closest we come to movies like that is stuff like Moon, which is one of my all time favorites, but it didn't exactly achieve international success....
