Bailing out banks does not work. It's not the banks fault i wouldn't say for asking for money

But the government giving them bailouts is a massive mistake and printing money 'robs' every American of their wealth

I am pro capitalist and pro banks but when i say we want better is that i mean we want a better system, not that i don't want banks. If you let banks go bust, new better working banks would emerge

If you bailout failed banks, then you are suppressing all competition and therefore preventing the business drive that gave our parents houses

I'd say something against you're argument, I'd just need to understand it first...

Ah, much better. Yea, i can understand that. But the way our government seems to think works is something called "trickle down economics". If we give the rich more money, they'll make more factories making more jobs. while this is not always the case, that's the way we believe works best. If we didn't bail out the banks, banks that are all across America, there would be such an increase in unemployment that it might not be worth the wait for the newer, better people to take charge.

I guess that's the big debate.

I can't help but feel passionately that bailing out banks is a terrible terrible idea.

You only have to compare Iceland to the EU to see which policies work the best.

I respect anyone who has an opinion that i feel i genuine. But when you watch the news or listen to politician's or President's they are all so fake and talk bullshit. They never talk about the options

Maybe Iceland's strategy wouldn't work in America. But have you ever heard Obama say why it wouldn't? To me they just ignore any other possible option and funnel as much money as possible into the banks

If you remember back in 2008, congress was originally sceptical of bail outs, but within a week had all changed their minds.

People usually just bring up the argument about increased percentage rates and what not. The whole idea is people get themselves into these messes. I have never seen the government tell someone to buy a house they can't afford.

All right, I'll bite.

First paragraph: How do you explain those who did not buy a $800,000 "McMansion", but a small house that they thought they were going to be able to afford because a Realtor coerced them into it and a bank gave them the loan at an enormously large interest rate?

Second: Also, because let's only discuss this seriously if we are going to do so accurately, what about the people who didn't get a degree in basket weaving, but something they were told was going to have a practical application, and then didn't because the economy tanked due to over speculation and easy loans that weren't paid back? Who financed all of that? Bond traders did. Who gambled with people's money because the repeal of the glass-steagall act ended the distinction between commercial and investment banking?

Now these people are the victims of a group of people that convinced them they'd be fine, and people like you look at them and say they should've known better. How could they have? Everyone was telling them the same thing. Why do you blame the victim of the deed for the consequences, and let the predator that tricked them remain on a pedestal?

The banks encouraged the people to get houses and take out massive loans that they couldn't afford. The people who bought the houses have some blame for being gullible, sure, but they wouldn't have bought the houses without the banks telling them that there was virtually no risk, if any.

Also:
1. Don't bring your bullshit about university loans into this. The topic was about banks and the housing foreclosure crisis, not student loans.
2. Not being from the US, I could be wrong here, but I seem to recall something about the US being a free country. You know, where people are free to do what they want with their lives? If someone has a dream of being an artist, are they just supposed to throw it by the curb until the economy clears up and get a job as a Walmart greeter?

I might be being a touch idealistic here, but it seems to me that it would be a better idea to secure the economy against meltdown at the hands of greedy motherfuckers instead of telling those with the misfortune not to be rich that they need to conform to a warped system.

I decided to do ROTC instead of paying for college. Yeah, I'm selling 4 years of my life away, possibly more, but it seems like the best decision to avoid any sort of debt. Why pay for something when you can get it for free?
