Just so EVERYONE is clear, the word "Soccer" came from British origin.

that may be so but the rest of the world now calls it football. its not just the British. all of Europe and most of India and Australia (basically anywhere we took over land at gunpoint) all call it football. for some reason america are doing their own thing while the rest of the world is just confused as fuck

American football was invented as a spinoff of rugby, before Europe started using Futbol to describe the game known to American's as "soccer".
When everything was switched, America didn't. I don't mind, honestly, I'm British myself, but I hate people who rag on American's like this post did when they have no real knowledge of where the origin of the word came from.

i just think they should have kept up with the rest of the fucking planet. but again language is a funny thing that our countries are divided by (and a fucking great big ocean thank Christ)though i do get mad when they refer to biscuits as cookies when they are actually two different things

Again, I have a lot of American friends, so I have to be able to differentiate between the languages (Even though we both speak English).
On the bright side, American women love British accents ;D

hell yea. though i bloody hate the way we are shown in america. like in xenoblade the actors are british but for some reason it sounds really fake. we are not posh or cockney or a crazy mixture thereof im a Londoner with welsh ancestry. on the whole i would say that the british have more diverse accents than america considering the size of the island

If you take into consideration how small we are as an island, and compare it to all of our different accents and nationalities, we're a very diverse people. I like a lot of American movies, but I agree I hate how some of them portray British people.

though Dick Van Dike in Mary Poppins is an exception because that shit was funny

lol right. I also dislike how most American's portray British made movies as shit. I loved the movie "Exam" and "wilderness".
Wilderness was so much better than The Hunger Games, and it's basically the same shit without all of the stupid love interests.

the thing is, some american "blockbusters" have been fucking terrible. battleship for a start, and let us not speak of the abomination that was the last air bender film. and yet love actually was really good. they are more than happy to steal our actors and say they are american like Hugh Lorie
User avatar #507 to #506 - turboplague (06/23/2012) [-]
It's annoying, but then again most of our actors go to America because they'll get more out of it. I don't hold it against them. American's are just so dense and so up on their high horse, and it's just annoying.

this may sound like imperial talk but we owned half the world at one point and i just wish america would remember that once in a while. i mean for fuck sake we are the only nation to invade american soil and we destroyed the white house.
User avatar #509 to #508 - turboplague (06/23/2012) [-]
Lol very true. But like I said, I don't mind too much. American's aren't the worst humans in the world, so I don't tend to get myself too upset with them. Again, I have a lot of American friends :D
