My grandfather works for a limo company and when people don't take their things (or call up) after a certain amount of days, he's allowed to take them. So my 83 year old grandpa has Ray Bans, a couple of watches, money, etc.

It's because people prefer apple software. Sure macs are more expensive, but there is not nearly as much hassle. The thing with the ipads and iphones and what not is that if anyone has ever used them, they are amazing machines. Most people use iTunes. Most people use ipods over zune players. Apple has very innovative software, making it look pretty is just a bonus.

Innovative software, you say?
>Itunes. Slows down computer as if I'm running BF3, horribly made.
>Safari. Horrible, no search engine in the url. Completely uncustomisable.
>iOS can't even run Flash on the iPhone/iPad/iPod.

What exactly makes them "amazing". I've tried Ipad 2 several times at my friends house. It just feels like a really expensive toy / facebook-machine

Apple isn't innovative, they just take lame ideas, like the tablet computer, and make them desirable. Remember the Microsoft tablet in 2001? It looks bulky, ugly and pointless. Same thing goes for the iPad except it's prettier. Plus, after the sudden popularity of touch screen devices, there was actually a market for it. So, you could say Apple is a clever company for making desirable products for a premium price. Now everyone sees Apple's way of marketing, and try to follow in it's footsteps, with pretty computers and touch screens and all the ******** .
User avatar #126 to #39 - pokemonstheshiz (06/21/2012) [-]
To be slightly fair about the Tablet PC, the touchscreen technology at that time wasn't very good. It was kind of cool, but it was very slow, not to mention there weren't apps and the sort then so there wasn't a whole lot you could do with it. So Microsoft threw it aside. Apple had already made the ipod touch and the iphone, so they had the whole app thing going for them, plus touchscreen technology had progressed much farther. So they picked up the tablet thing. They are innovative though in the aspect of the ipod, ipod touch, and iphone, I have to give Apple that at least. There is no defense for the computers though

It wasn't very user friendly though. Consumers don't usually buy overly complicated products (this was one of them), which is where Apple's niche in the market is, their stuff is extremely simple. Also, you really can't fairly compare technology that is years apart.

ray-bans are hand made in italy...workers are paid well above minimum wage, they were also the original makers of wayfarers and the quality is far better. no name brands are assembly lined, cost a dollar to make and ship and you usually need to by 15 because of the amount of times that they break

They're also made in China

"Luxottica has been in China since 1997, when it opened its first plant there with Tristar, the Guangdong company controlled by the Agordo Group to manage production in China and back up its longstanding capacity in Italy. The plant in Dongguan City was the first to open and covers some 53,000 square meters, while the one in Gabobu Town, in the same part of Guangdong, covers 80,000 square meters and was opened in 2006. Tristar’s production platform plays an important role in the Group’s global strategy and has certain distinctive features that make it one of the most efficient and competitive in the whole of China. To diversify production in China, Luxottica uses skilled labor only and a level of technology very high for the standards involved in this type of production, all of which for the end purpose of guaranteeing the highest levels of service for our clients, reducing delivery times and above all maintaining the high standards of quality associated with Luxottica’s name. Luxottica employs around 4,600 people in the Guangdong production facilities, which fully replicate the Luxottica vertical integration model that has made the Group’s brands and operations so successful worldwide." - Luxottica website

okay, any smartphone then. I just said iPhone cuz it's the most popular. my point is, even if the quality is better, $200 is way too much for a pair of sunglasses. And unless you drop them or something, the $10 pair is basically the same thing

So... you're buying the brand name, it's basically showing off. Does a rolex watch really tell the time better than a watch worth a pound? No, you're buying it so you can say "I have a rolex".
User avatar #132 to #128 - DragonLordDM (06/21/2012) [-]
Actually Rolex's are very nice watches. They are highly accurate, and you never have to replace the battery, because it's powered by movement when you walk or do whatever with your arms. So the watch could technically last forever as long as you're not a vegetable or a part doesn't spontaneously combust.
#137 to #132 - vcios (06/21/2012) [-]
Although you are right, self winding watches exist outside of the rolex brand, for a lot cheaper. Rolex watches are most certainly well made watches, but you are still paying more for the brand.
User avatar #140 to #137 - DragonLordDM (06/22/2012) [-]
Yes, and saying you own a Rolex just lifts people's self esteem. As long as it's not hurting anyone, and you have enough money to freely buy a Rolex. I see no problem with it.

the actual lenses make a big difference. the ten dollar ones just darken vision while usually expensive ones usually give a nice warm tint

Ray Bans had better glasses earlier, and that was what made them expensive. (my dad has got a pair, and told me why they costed a lot before)
Nowadays they're just expensive because it's a popular brand.

lol this is why I never buy designer brands.

>Overpriced for a label
>Have to be paranoid taking care of them since you practically put a ******* mortgage out to buy them
>Most of all ... THEY BREAK LIKE A ************

All the expensive I ever bought ripped/broke so easily. While cheap **** lasted long.

The only time I overpaid for clothes was at an expensive store which was stylish and the hot bitches there dressed me well. Because I have a dick and I don't shop properly, so to me, overpaying to cut the time to shop around for nice suiting clothes was worth it. I was that lazy to shop. Just let the slut with giant tight tits dress me in 5min I had what I wanted and I was outta there.

Warning:
Big tit tight bitches will use their big tit tight tits to convince you to buy more **** . Don't be a pussy, have the attitude of "Bitch, I got what I wanted, either suck my dick or gimme my receipt".

Reminds me so much of Alienware, you are paying for the name... and I hate when people say when you buy an Alienware it's like "buying the ferrari" of computers. That is complete ******** .

Ferrari - one of a kind car produced in limited numbers, one of the fastest engines in the world, absolutely flawless in technicality and design

Alienware - Not one of a kind, you can build one faster yourself, all the parts are the same **** you can buy on newegg for half price

Stuff like Alienware is for rich stupid people that are too lazy to build a computer their selves where one does not simply build a ferarri
#141 to #138 - John Cena (06/22/2012) [-]
Well, the stationary Alienware computers. When it comes to portable computers you don't have the option of building one yourself and there they are actually good - yet overpriced still.
User avatar #161 to #138 - protroller (06/22/2012) [-]
Gonna have to say you're wrong with Ferrari being "Absolutely flawless in technicality and design" Some are much, much better than others. The 430, for instance, while having the nameplate and prestige of a Ferrari, is absolutely awful. Having test driven a 2007 model myself, I can say It doesn't compare (at all) to several other sportscars, namely the Porsche 997 GT3, and even more so, the Audi R8 V10 FSI Quattro. for $140k USD less, you get much more comfort, and a much better driver. With AWD, it's much better in acceleration, and there's less wheelspin since the power's dispersed evenly. Quality and craftsmanship are about equal, but the Audi is an all round better car.
