some of the best relationships i know including mine involve being friends first. no i didnt friendzone him we really did start as friends cause we had similar interests and he was having issues with his gf at that time and asked me for help....we realized after they broke up that we had alot in common and some differences we can bring to table and both felt that a relationship felt right like it was ment to be......and we both have had our share of dissapointments in teens.

so go for it......its how you gain expirence...even of you dont make it with her then there will be a next time and you have more knowlege on how to handle things.
