I have neither played nor watched it before.

i play highschool rugby, (only 4 games due to school starting late) but when playing you can take anyone down how ever you can, you can jersey grab them and throw them down, you can suplex, just as long as you go down with them, also you can not pass foward, always backwards, so the team on defence is in a stright line, were the offence is on a 45 degree angle to make the backward passes, also only way the game stops is if someone gets yellow card for lanuage, you run into a friendly(happens alot) and if you try and block a enemy that does not have the ball. there is also scrums( were 8 people from each team try and push each other away from the ball and the "hooker" uses his legs to grab the ball, and a ruck is were around 2 from each team(can be more) fight over the ball that is loose during an active ball (mini scrum)and yes this sport is fucking brutal also my coach always says, your going to get hurt, every game, not injured. and football and rugby are not close to being the same other then going from 1 side to another. scoring is a try (touch down) for 5 points and a kick for 2 points.

also you can wear hats....but it will most likely fall off when your tackled

I have not watched Rugby enough. THough what i have heard about the sport is that it is 100% brutal. I think every move (Side tackling) is legal. So i doubt that they do it for a foul. Rugby is a lot similar to footbal in a sense that a team must take the ball from one side to another. Now there are no "downs" so you really do WHATEVER it takes. Most people bleed or break something.

Also, rugby has a lot of face injuries. The face has a lot of capillaries, so injuries bleed more than normal, making them look worse than they are. Granted, there are a lot of severe injuries in rugby.

I play soccer and that's usually the case; but sometimes even soccer players and watchers of the game get pissed off when a player embellishes a foul. Not all players are like that though, most get up and play right after, some even play with broken bones and not know it.
This is a pic of me about a month ago when I got elbowed. (It was from my iPhone, from FB since the actual pic wasn't from my phone) When it happened, I fell to the ground but got right back up as if nothing has happened, but the opposing player who elbowed me said I was bleeding and I was taken off. I just wanted to get back on and play.
My point is, is that only some players make it bad for the whole sport.
While for rugby it is expected for you to carry on. That's the nature of the sport.

I know what you're talking about I've played soccer for like 13 years now and I've had multiple coaches and other players tell me to feign an injury or a foul if it will benefit us, personally I never did, I tried to stay on my feet as much as possible even if I was legitimately fouled, but I can see where going down would have been the better choice a lot of times.

Because you're so aware of how solid the joints are you're diving at you learn real quick how to position your head, so with a bit of luck those head injuries get avoided
