I'm gonna be honest here, but history is really useless in most of the jobs available out there. Sure you need history if you are going into politics, or want to be a historian, but I am going into engineering and I will probably never use history again in my life.
I know you can say that about a lot of subjects, but I am just saying...

If the only reason you study is to get a fancy job, you're underestimating the value of knowlage

You dont think that there is such thing as useless knowledge? I can put it that everything is the study of history, since everything happens in the past, there is no way to study the future, so in a way we are studying history no matter what. I love learning about how things came to be, but you can't change what happens in the past, you can only learn about it. What happened hundreds/thousands of years ago may not apply to what is happening at this very moment of time. What is important is to learn about the state of things right now. Not necessarily to remenise about how things were. Its just my opinion

I think you guys are confusing history vs what you learn in a history class. You learn history about scientists and mathematicians and how they developed ideas. But what is the point in learning about the Dorian invasion of Greece or other things like that? When will that help you in life?

Well, if we don't learn history we are bound to repeat it. History is the best teacher - and it tells us where we come from and an indication of where we're going.

Or mabey history is just interesting, and the more we look on our past, the more we can learn from it, and use what we have learned to make the future a better place

Kinda a "learn from your mistakes" thing
