A friend of mine did some charity work in Africa(om not sure where, Uganda or Congo seem likely.)
She is caucasian, and was living in a small village far away from running water and so on.
After a while more and more people started showing of when she was bathing, just standing there, looking at her.
Of cause she was a bit embarrassed, but thought it might be due to cultural differences.
Then one they some ladies spontaneously enters the area she was bathing in and started scrubbing away on her whole body.
It was about this point my friend realized the locals were trying to make her sunburn/more brown skin disappear, thinking she had become insanely dirty after her arrival.
TL:DR: Africans thinking white peoples sunburned skin is dirt.
