Yeah, like fanboys and fangirls of Greenday claiming that it's punk. The same goes for Sum 41 and The Offspring. I love both bands, but they can't compare to something like Black Flag or The Replacements. It's not punk at all.

Of course it doesn't. That point is obvious to myself and anyone else who actually lived through the phenomenon. That was not my point either explicitly or implicitly.

You see; face piercings, tattoos, spikes and leather used to mean something. They reliably and fairly exclusively defined an instantly recognizable cadre of allies...brothers in arms. There were also hardcores who needed no raiment because their attitude shined brilliantly. Tossers and wannabes could try to slip in but were easily recognizable...not so anymore.

Now, any pubescent with daddy's credit card can arbitrarily decide to don the gear while simultaneously owning the complete Justin beiber collection. (also purchased with daddy's credit card)...All good things become homogenized and infested.

i agree completely. anyone with a credit card can take up any clothing style really easily, but they can easily be picked out as a "wannabe" because they just didn't live the style
