but for it to be theft, there would have to be something removed from the owner. by pirating software, music, etc. you just make a copy for yourself. The original owner is not damaged at all therefore it's not a crime in my opinion.

You are using a service that a company charges money for, you are not paying for it. It isn't theft but you are not respecting the company as you are using their products without paying, so it is a crime.

You're using something they made and the company said if you wish to use this pay up. You're using it without paying and therefore abusing a service a company is providing. That is a crime.
