With the constant amount of water of the ball, even the thinnest layer of water, no air would be able to get in, for that to happen, the ball would need to be waterproof.

Would water not cover the holes? It wouldn't go THROUGH them, but it would cover them. And air can't go through the water, which means it would only work if you stopped and gave time for water to run off of it. (Major inconvenience,)
Also rolling around in the ball you couldn't say something wouldn't get STUCK to the ball.

No, if the ball is going through water it'd be spinning at an averagelly fast speed, in which the water would be in a way COVERING the ball in a thin sheet of water, making it difficult to get air.

That depends on the type of zombie. Most need a solid bite, not just any bodily fluid touching in a wound.

either way, the balls glass would need to be fairly thick, so unless you are shins deep in blood for long amounts of time, only a few drops at most would get in. still better odds then without the ball.
