for a second there, i thought the orange "censor bar" for the profile picture was a cookie...
Okay real question, It doesn't matter what "Theist" I am or whatever.
But how did people back then assume hell was in the middle of the Earth, and Scientist later said an inferno is under the Earth's crust?
How did people back then know that?
Legit question, no shitstorms or butt hurts.

Quick answer, the exact location of a hell/underworld varies between ancient mythological systems, in the Odyssey, the underworld is in fact just a long way off, in the direction of the Atlantic, in other Greek and Roman literature, it's under the ground, and I believe most mesopotamian/semitic mythologies place it as under the earth. Later Christians borrow descriptions of hell from roman descriptions of tartarus (the bad part of the classical underworld).
Just a guess, but could have observed volcanoes or similar and made the assumption, though, to be fair, not all of the ancient cultures which say hell as under the earth assumed it was hot.

You're just as intolerant as them if you think like that. FFS. First off, you don't even know what it is you're talking about- "Claiming they know stuff when they take for granted an old fairy tale"- that sentence makes absolutely no sense. If I really need to drill it into your head, the reason the Vatican is so wealthy is because it needs to be. It is the central hub of the largest organized religion in the world. The Catholic church is the most charitable institution out there with every diocese adhering to one form of giving or another. I'm not Catholic but I have nothing but respect for Catholics.
