That isn't what the book on Myth I'm reading that I have right next to me says. She was a hideous snake beast.

I dunno. This is what I was taught about Medusa. She was prettier than one of the goddesses so she got major jelly and put a curse on her that she would still be pretty and any man who dared to look at her beauty would be turned to stone. I could be wrong.

Yeah, I think that is wrong. Because if that were true, it wouldn't be a heroic deed to have cut off Medusa's head, it would have been freeing her of the goddesses' wrath. And if you know the story of Prometheus, or Jason, or any greek hero really, you'll find that freeing someone under the torment of the god usually means you get screwed over twice-fold. If she were just a woman no one would have trouble blindfolding themselves and strangling her, or hell, just shooting an arrow at her from behind.

There are lots of different ways of telling greek mythology stories. It depends on who you're talking to I suppose.
