You obviously need the second one. Studying doesn't make you smart, it makes you informative. An idiot can study long enough and do equations that a genius invented. A smart person is capable of not only absorbing information but expanding upon it, and forming their own thoughts and ideas WITHOUT having study materials to work with, except for the ones they are naturally given through observation.
