I play chess. My team got 4th in state out of 153 teams. I know what I'm talking about. There is usually no advantage to being one color or the other.

But if two players of equal skill level played against one another with the same strategy, then the white would automatically win, as that player goes first and is one step ahead.

I am no professional player, but from watching others play, black plays to draw unless mistakes are made.

White usually has like a 2% win margin on average over black, but that's almost usually because many players prefer playing as white and develop no strategies to react as black in the opening.
