I live in Italy, surrounded by Catholics.
Evolution has always been thaught in schools with nobody ever complaining.
I know 2 priests, and both of them think that Adam and Eve is a myth to represent Mankind's fall from grace. I've never heard the Pope saying a single word against the Theory of Evolution.
I'm an atheist, so I'm not 100% sure on the pope, but I was always pretty sure Creationism in its extreme form doesn't exist outside of the USA.
I heard of it for the first time watching the Simpsons.
My grandparents are old catholics who have no problem accepting evolution.

Hate to be "that guy", but the Catholic Church accepts Evolution (finally).

It's (Grammar?) funny because the Catholic Church actually accepts the theory of evolution. It's just some of the idiots in the church and other religions who won't follow common sense. No reason to argue about it.

I'll just leave this here to prevent butthurt, since so many people are misinterpreting a very simple joke.

The pope makes fun of a well known scientist, evolution is a scientific theory, and since he's probably the greatest scientist alive at the moment it's ironic that his disability is a result of evolution.

Does not suggest that the pope does not believe in evolution

Likewise, stephen replies by telling the pope that the condom banning in africa (which is believed to be morally good to Catholics) is actually because of a previous scandal in the church.

Should've used someone like Bill O'Reilly considering the pope accepts evolution.

Someone once told me : "If evolution is real, then why do we still have monkeys? Who the hell got left behind?"

Fact: The Catholic church accepts evolution as true and in no way invalidating a belief in god. Evolution DOES NOT DEAL WITH HOW LIFE STARTED. It only deals with how it has changed over time.

Okay, everybody, calm down. I've got this figured out. I'm an atheist myself, and I don't usually post or comment on things like these, but away from the web, if you were to say anything pro-atheism or rejecting religion, a lot of the time you'd get things like in the image to the left thrown at you, you could get beat up, taunted, a lot of unpleasant things. Religious people have their churches and bible groups and studies, but where can non-religious people go? For some atheists and agnostics etc., it seems like the only place you can meet people and discuss your opinions is here on the internet, which is why a lot of anti-religion stuff gets dumped here, I think. So if you're noticing a lot of pro-atheism/ anti-religion stuff around FJ, that's why.
