US didn't want to emotionally scar the kids by using the word Evil, so they renamed it Dark. Haven't you noticed that most Dark-type moves have nothing to do with darkness but rather with dirty tricks and cunning maneuvers? I suppose the only explanation is that Dark-types' sinister cleverness allows them to see through the vulnerabilities of the supposedly invulnerable Ghost-type.

On the other hand, Fighting-type is roughly translated to "Justice" in Japanese, which is why it's typically super-effective against Dark (or Evil)-type.

I was checking the comments to see if anyone else asked that! It's such bullshit, half of Ghost-type Pokemon's Pokedex entries say shit like "lurks in the dark" or "only appears at night". Why the fuck would darkness HURT them???

Because they wanted types to be balanced.

Maybe because Dark types also embraced darkness and night, and they can see them better than others and maybe attack at their weak spots. Or it could be because the ghost types are ethereal, and mystical attacks affect them more than physical ones.
Dunno, just putting ideas out here.
