Actually no, this event actually happened. The Soviets censored the original image because one of the soldiers had two watches, which meant that he looted at least one of them. The Soviets also added more smoke in the background to make the scene more dramatic.

But this picture is the original one, because you can see under the soldier holding the flag is a soldier grabing the flag holder, and that soldier has two watches.
