Why do homosexuals wanna get married anyway? To be honest I don't see why marriage, for any sexual orientation, in general is such a big deal. It's just like having a boyfriend/ girlfriend except with what? Once in your life you celebrate it with all your friends and family and put an overpriced ring on someone's finger? I know too many people who's parents have gotten divorced and it's left them scarred. It bothers me that divorce rates are so high because it only shows the true meaning of marriage has been lost. "Until death do us part " means nothing anymore.... There's no point in making such a big deal out of something if a large amount of people don't respect it and/or take it for granted.

One of the biggest reasons to get married, besides loving that person, is the fact that you could possibly save them if an accident ever occurred. Take this as an example:

You're a woman and you have a girlfriend. You find out that she was in a terrible car accident and she's in the hospital. You go to the hospital and find out more bad news, her insurance won't cover the costs and she needs surgery to LIVE, so you offer /your/ insurance because you know it will cover everything. The hospital wants to know if the two of you are married. You say "No." then the hospital plainly tells you to go **** yourself because they can't help since you're not legally bonded to one another. The hospital could have saved your girlfriend, the one true love of your life, and they said no because you're not married.

This has happened and what's worse is it can happen to someone who also has children with their partner. :T Think about this and see how you would feel if you were in this person's shoes.

It's about legal recognition and the benefits of legal couples.

WELL.
joint parenting;
joint adoption;
joint foster care, custody, and visitation (including non-biological parents);
status as family for hospital visits and medical decisions where one partner is too ill to be make the decision;(true example, a lesbian's girlfriend, who had no family, became ill and wasn't competent to make any decision. the woman couldn't make a decision on her behalf because she wasn't married to her, though they were planning on it. i believe the woman died)
home, auto and health joint insurance policies;
inheritance automatically in the absence of a will;
joint leases with renewal rights in the event one partner dies or leaves the house or apartment;
benefits such as annuities, pension plans, social security, and medicare;
spousal exemptions to property tax increases upon the death of one partner who is a co-owner of the home;

crime victims' recovery benefits

To name but a few

Benefits. If you had gay parents, and one of them were dying without health insurance, they wouldn't except the other parents, and many other benefits.
