he can't directly change the rulings himself, however he may influence others to in the long run. So, yes, it's better for him to openly speak about it rather than doing nothing at all.

No, it's not. There are many, MANY issues of far more importance at the moment that ARE under the presidents power that they stay silent on.

Just the fact that he is speaking of it specifically for election takes all credit away from him.

i see where you're coming from, and i do agree that he could be focusing on more important topics and issues at hand, but i don't see him speaking about it as necessarily a negative thing.

It's not what he is doing that I don't like, it's how he's doing it. He could have made this a point when he was being elected the first time, but instead he waits until he's hurting in popularity to bring this up. This shows he doesn't really care about it, he's just using it.

Why does he have no right to mention it? His opponents have been mentioning it for months and have been using it as a platform, it is completely legitimate for him to respond. And how does him not being able to change effect him giving his opinion? Eisenhower gave his opinion on the courts ruling in the Brown vs Board of education case. Nixon gave his opinion on the Roe vs wade case. Neither of them could overturn a supreme court ruling but that didn't stop them from giving there opinion.

Sadly not, but it's definatly going to be. Not one to generalize but people up Britain don't generally listen much to bigoted priests and as such. Plus the stigmas dying out pretty quickly as well.

As it is a conservative party, no. I'm not saying every tory is against but I don't think there are enough to reach a majority, otherwise it would have passed by now. All the countries or who legalised gay-marriage were run by socialists or liberals then.

I suppose so, some might just be tip toeing round the issue to try and avoid what's happening in America. Still, perhaps they should grow some bloody bollocks, this isn't about the recession or pensions, this is about peoples freedoms.

Except if this is what gets him the votes to stay president, our entire nation should be nuked to dust. I hear all the time how he is such a terrible president, so that should be enough to not get him re-elected.

He doesn't care about gays. He's just using them as a tool to get votes. If he cared he would have done something about it.
