Why stick to only one genre? Metal will sound like metal, electro will be electro, and classical will sound like classic. If you give yourself more choice, things will actually sound different.
I'm not sure if I quite understand your comment, but who the fuck listens to just one genre? I listen to everything except pop. And when I say everything, I mean everything. Rock, metal, classical, rap, hip-hop, techno, folk (Bob Dylan is the shit, but he might be more rock), jazz, country even (Johnny Cash). I don't think everyone is quite as diverse as me, but I'm sure that most people, if not everyone, listens to more than ONE genre of music.
You would be surprised. There are even those that lie to themselves to believe. But a quick scroll through someones ipod or audio playing device will reveal that. Last week i found out this guy listens to only rap and that's all, and i have a friend that listens to nothing but japanese.
What anon said below has some truth. Metal is the biggest fucking genre with all sorts of diversity between gothic, heavy, death, etcetera. The point I don't agree with is where anon decided to bash other genres. Music is about perceived value. Some people like high levels of musicianship, some people just want to jam to a good beat. Me, I stick to one genre mostly because that's just what I like, I'm not a fan of much music outside of rock or metal, but I'll admit it when I here good rap or dubstep. I'm not too high and mighty or self-righteous enough to believe that only my taste in music is the right way.
I wouldn't say that metal is the biggest genre, mostly because some consider it a sub-genre of rock, but also because even if it isn't a sub-genre of rock, rock is still a shit-ton more diverse than metal. You've got prog-rock, psychedelic rock, hard rock, punk rock, alternative rock, grunge, rap-rock, etc. Don't get me wrong, metal is great, and a big genre, but rock is waaay bigger.
Metalcore, dredge, goth, doom, funeral, alt, heavy, classic, stoner, sludge, death, deathcore (yes, there is a difference), symphonic, melodic, industrial, black, power, thrash, progressive, nu, drone, folk, celtic, grindcore, grunge, viking, rap. A lot of those subgenres are shared with rock, but there is no doom, dredge, or funeral rock along with several others. And those aren't even all of the subgenres of metal, just what I could think of off the top of my head, plus a lot of those genres mix to make entirely new sounds. I wouldn't be able list all the rock genres either, but I can't think of nearly as much

I should just point out that each genre is MASSIVE. I'm a metal and classic fan, and believe me, the amount of sub-genres within metal are so ridiculous that you could form your own genres akin to just "rock" or "electro" within it. Just listen to the difference between something like Kamelot and something like Cannibal Corpse.
Not all music in a genre is the same. AT ALL.

Lol all's good. ^-^ I was the one who gave the thumb up on your realization reply.
But i'm not on my computer right now so my reactions folder isn't with me at the moment.
