Because humans are essentially selfish, lowly, and prideful. We think we are on top, when our buildings are destroyed by the lowly termite. Our homes destroyed by flooding, and our vehicles made useless in blizzards. Yet we still think we control the world. We aren't the fastest, we simply make things that are the fastest. We aren't the strongest, we just make things that are the strongest. The only thing we might be is the smartest. But even still, the vast majority of our population makes me think of weak, hairless chimps.

Yes, but in the end, all of us desire attention. It's human nature to be self centered, because we're naturally assholes.
