A black hole isn't nothing, it's a whole lot of something in an area much smaller than that much something is usually in.

It's a void.

A void is nothing. A black hole is a shitton of mass (like from a star) compressed into a small area. The reason it pulls things in is because things that have a shitton of mass have very high gravity.

Everything around it is the stuff getting pulled in. There's not just a gap of nothing in between the black hole stuff and the stuff outside the event horizon.
