I have the same story, we were told in 5th grade how the we think the world would be better and why. My ass got straight to talking about how I think mostly politics, religion and gun control seems to be fucking up America and how the president should care about other third world country's ( I was very well interested in these things and my parents never forced beliefs on me so this is what I learned myself). The teacher said I wasn't allowed to talk about the problems I brought up in school, so of course the kids saying that recycling and cyber bullying was way more important than anything got the best grades. mfw
