No Steyr AUG? That gun is a BEAST!
User avatar #93 to #84 - soulstrike (05/08/2012) [-]
front heavy and complex to take down and put back together, mostly plastic, and looks ugly, do not want
User avatar #95 to #93 - Bion (05/08/2012) [-]
Its not plastic, at all. And its a relatively small gun, in bullpup style, makes it ballanced and easy to use. And its model, frame, and parts are all high quality, and have like, no reason to ever be taken apart.
User avatar #102 to #95 - soulstrike (05/08/2012) [-]
from the wiki and i quote " the AUG is a modular configuration rifle that employs a high level of polymer and advanced alloy components." polymer=plastic, and you have to take apart all real guns for regular cleaning, if you dont clean your weapon it will not fire correctly, it will jam, and it could back fire, and its still ugly
User avatar #108 to #102 - Bion (05/08/2012) [-]
The only pieces that are reinforced plastic are the clip and stock. Makes it weigh less. And the barrel slides right out, as there are many different barrels you can interchange, allowing for maintenance, if need be.

And I find it pretty awesome looking.
User avatar #118 to #108 - soulstrike (05/08/2012) [-]
that gun is almost all stock, therefore mostly plastic, if the problem is not barrel related that thing is a bitch to break down, and i personally dont care for the look, not a fan of bull pups in general

< Image of an AUG disassembled. Yeah, a tad complex, but AUGs are meant to be lifetime rifles. They don't generally need maintenance. They don't jam until the reach 500 degrees Celsius, can handle being driven overby a Unimog repeatedly, be baked in an oven (heat testing) or submerged in mud for days, and fire normally. And its one of the few guns that perform "well" underwater.

And, when I first saw the bullpup designs, I didn't like them either. They're a bit of an acquired taste, I think. But, honestly, bullpups are the new technology. You'll be seeing a lot more of them, and PDW's in the near future. But, in reality, looks aren't really worth much on the battlefield.

(By the way, I'm not arguing with you, just stating bits of information. Whether you even care to read it or not, that doesn't really matter. I just like the AUG.)

i always take time to read replys, however alot of people on here do not, i'm glad you do as well, this has been an interesting conversation to say the least, fact of the matter is it all comes down to personal preference, and mine is the M4, and as far as future weapons go im just waiting for man portable railguns
User avatar #123 to #122 - Bion (05/08/2012) [-]
Lmao. That would be pretty interesting. Makes me think of Tau pathfinders from Warhammer 40k.

And yes, its nice to have a "conversation" and not an argument over what is better and what-not. It doesn't happen often, on here, but its nice when it does.

Personally, I find the M4 a little simplistic. Simple is good, and it definitely gets the job done, but... *shrugs* I guess I'm just the kind of person that follows technological advancements when it comes to weaponry. I'm becoming quite fond of the PDW's and bullpups, for instance.

fpr close to mid range my favorite is the MP7, and i like the 40k reference, honestly i think the tau is the direction the military is mving toward, more machine than man eventually
#128 to #124 - N. Korean citizen (05/08/2012) [-]
Well, the reason the Tau have to use suits and integrated helmets is because their hearing is ridiculously sensitive, and their eyesight is extremely poor. A small explosion is often enough to cause one to go deaf, and they NEED aiming assist things to... well... shoot things. I'm just saying, that humans don't need those assistance's (not as much as Tau did), and would more than likely follow something like the Space Marines. At least as far as the genetic differences (several hearts, ridiculously strong, seep is optional). I don't see our weapon of choice in the future being chainswords and bolt pistols. But rather than advance ourselves with fancy suits, I think we're more prone to advancing ourselves, is what I'm saying.

...but a space marine utilizing the technology of Tau..would be a formidable foe.

Didn't realize I was logged out for that... whoops.

10 foot tall tau marines with bolters and rail guns
User avatar #132 to #131 - Bion (05/08/2012) [-]
Sounds like a Broadside Battlesuit. Lmao. only instead of boltguns, a smart missile system or plasma rifles.

3rd row on the right...
User avatar #88 to #86 - Bion (05/08/2012) [-]
Definitely not an AUG. If it is, then its a pretty crappy attempt, and is a disgrace to the gun.
User avatar #91 to #88 - lawkingdom (05/08/2012) [-]
It's a toy intended for young children, i don't think they care nor can tell the difference between an M16 and a AUG
User avatar #90 to #88 - anog (05/08/2012) [-]
Well it is. Just deal with it.

It isn't the best gun ever, anyway.

User avatar #92 to #90 - Bion (05/08/2012) [-]
Actually its pretty awesome IRL. Its not that great in video games, though, but its extremely reliable, durable, and can fit different roles with different mods and barrel adjustments, like a makeshift LMG or sniper.

Thing is almost impossible to destroy, and needs to be fired constantly, clip after clip after clip, for it to ever jam.
User avatar #94 to #92 - anog (05/08/2012) [-]
I have never actually shot that gun.

I do prefer the MP7A1 over most weapons. It is more of a close up gun, but it has pretty much no recoil at all and I can empty the clip into anything with in 2 seconds.
User avatar #99 to #94 - Bion (05/08/2012) [-]
Well, I was looking for some youtube vids of it being shot, but I can't see any. The AUG is meant for medium range, but its not bad at long range, and "okay" at close.

So.. here's a site all about it. http://www.steyr-aug. com/augtrivia.htm

Awesome info imo.

I also like the MG36 a lot. Both IRL and in games.
