You're partly right. Spain, instead of killing all the natives, they used them as slaves. It was called the encomienda system, the system of using natives as slaves. Don't get me wrong, other countries did this too. Plus, although European descendants were greedy, they spread out also to spread Christianity. The three main reasons that exploration occured was for;
Gold: Resources and such to sell (In that time money=power, Mercantilism)
Glory: Spread the glory of their king/queen. Sometimes by conquering others.
God: Spread Christianity to other parts of the world.

It's still english, dialects are not different languages. All countries have dialects, north italians have a hard time understanding southern, etc. It's still the same language.

The "tongue" of the tribe is not important. I am metaphorically comparing the different tribes to different types of english.

So for example. Let's say Powhatan and Blackfoot are the tribes we use.

Powhatan= American English
Blackfoot= United Kingdom English

If you go up to a powhatan and say, hey man you must be blackfoot. You would be wrong in your statement.

In another example. Say I spoke with a british accent using british words such as "mate". People would assume I am british because of the type of english I am speaking. If I spoke like an american again they would notice the difference and know I was american.

Why is this? British english and American english are different. It is the same as how you can identify what part of a country someone is from by what slang words they use.
