It didn't say American, it said USA, meaning what they call the month in the country of the USA, for example British says Chips but USA says fries, that's how the author meant it...

We actually use 'fries' for the thin and crispy ones, like the ones McDonald's serves, but call chunky, mainly potato ones 'chips'.

But yeah, we always call what you call 'chips' crisps.

Mexican =spanish but they are both called spanish.
American= english and they are both called english.

Well I was proposing the idea that because our dialects are moving father apart, that each dialect almost becomes a different language. While I could go to England and understand what they are saying, I feel as though somethings wouldn't fit or make sense to me. That's all.

Well technically English in America(s) and the UK are different enough that some sites give you the choice to choose between the two. They aren't two different languages but they are slightly different enough that you can do something like this (I guess.)

The sites give you the choice because they have an American website and a UK website. Some offers may not apply in certain countries or they may have advertising which can appeal more to an American than someone from the UK.
NOT because our languages are different.

well you're correct but what does it have to do with the english language being represented as an american flag? do you want the english language flag to be a mix of anglo-saxon germanic with a little french-latin?

It's fine, I used to do it almost every time. They're 2 readings of the same kanji after all.
How long have you been taking it? I'm in 202, did some Rosetta Stone before that.

taking it through school, first year. planning on taking as much as possible. it sort of aggravates me, the kids in spanish can say almost anything and we're stuck doing almost nothing but kanji.

Well, vocab kind of comes with kanji, and there's a lot of it, so it makes sense to put a lot of work into it. Do you have a lot of trouble with them?

being as lazy as i am, a little bit. and sometimes they all look the same because it seems they're all based off a t shape. but when i study, i don't have too much trouble. and i meant they can say a whole bunch of sentences. we've pretty much got "___wa___desu" and "___o/e___." (we have a few others, but not many.)

Have you tried memorizing kanji by radicals? Once I started doing that, it got way easier. Not easy of course, but easier. XD

One of my classmates taught me that. Combining that with mnemonic devices...

"Okay, so 横 (yoko; across, side, horizontal) is made with the "tree" and "yellow" kanji put together, right? So imagine you're cutting down the yellow tree by the side of your house using a horizontal slash."
