Okay, I have this theory that I have been thinking long and hard about and it seems pretty solid. I would greatly appreciate any input y'all might have on this. So here is my theory with Amon being able to take peoples bending away. I highly doubt he can take it from them permanently. First off the last person to use it was Aang and he was taught by the giant Lion Turtle, which showed him the exact hand placement to do so, Amon only has his hands on the person's head and behind the neck, actual placement is the head and chest. What I have gathered is that he is somehow blocking the flow of the person's chakras. As Guru Pathik explained in the first show. Although he was talking to Aang about having full control of the Avatar state I believe that Amon has some how figured out a way to block that flow located on the crown of the head so that they can't use their bending. It is still there, just locked away. And because Guru Pathik and Aang are the only ones who knew how to free the flow of chakra no one else would be able to bend again. That is my theory on that. The power is still there, just locked away.

I don't understand why Amon hates the benders so much. I know a bender killed his parents and burned him face, but he needs to understand that bending doesn't kill people, people kill people. Plus even if all the benders are gone, then the chi blockers will be the new ruling power (cycle repeats).

Why not just give equality to the non benders?
They appear to have almost no representation in the government of republic city.
Give them the equality they want and Amon will lose 99% of his support. Regular people are clearly at least a little repressed in republic city, however if they do not feel oppressed, i.e. are given representation in government, important public roles etc. they are far less ;likely to support a violent and extreme organisation.
TL;DR Republic city needs reform. Do it and Amon will lose his support.
