War is the thing that kept humanity inventing new ways of killing eachother, new inventions came out of war that we use everyday. Without war we would still be in caves poking each other with sticks.

Note that the first inventions of mankind were tools to kill more efficiently with.

War is in every species' nature. Control over a territory is programmed into every fiber of every being. It may not be as destructive in nature as human's ordeal, but it's in there. Distrust is natural. You wouldn't see a stranger on the street and trust him to watch your kid or your house. Distrust and territorial dominance is always going to be evident in nature. 80% of the population could not be at war, but there will always be someone out there with different ideas and different motives.
