Neon genesis evangelion is an anime about teenage giant mechas who fight an evil corporation whilst they attend catholic robot high school.
The image depicts the final episode when the protagonist,KENJI-04,has finally defeated NERVE(evil corporation),but the fight has destroyed Tokio-02(the first tokio was destroyed by god in 2012),and also during the fight he had to kill one of his friend with whom he was developing a gay relationship,because he discovered he was a spy from NERVE,so at the end,he is there dramatically standing alone in a flooded city inhabited only by rotting corpses when he cames arround one girl,and in that moment we discover that he is Adam,the girl Eve and the destruction of Tokio-02 and hence humanity was part of the plan of god to restart humanity.
But Kenji-04 then rebels against gods plans and decides to absorv all the souls of the dead humans to acquire a power capable of destroying god.
