Usually at the end of every book Aang learned the bending of the book (EX. water book he learn to waterbend), so Korra should learn how to airbend at the end of this book. The creators said they wanted to do 2 seasons, so I wonder what the next book will be.

It's so short because only the main writers are working on it, so that'll mean no filler episodes at all (even though some of them were great, like Zuko Alone or Tales of Ba Sing Se)

Like an onion, the Avatar shows have many layers :D.
And yeah due to the fact the legend of korra will only run 26 episodes total, it has to fit more story in a shorter space of time than A:TLA did. It also helps that the show matured with its original audience too.
