Too soon?

It turned into a national issue because the media wants people to believe that hate crimes against blacks are a huge issue in America, when really they aren't common at all. For instance, if you ask any one of those people on the "Justice for Trayvon" Facebook page, they probably can't name 2 other instances where a "hate crime" like this has happened. When Zimmerman was assaulted by Trayvon, he shot Trayvon in self defense, not as a hate crime. [1] Here's the sad truth about this whole ordeal: there are over 37,000 cases of black men raping white women every single year, yet there are fewer than 10 cases (meaning the number is too low to calculate a national average) of white men raping black women. (Look at the arrest records if you want a source). When I recognize that over 100 white women are being raped everyday by blacks, I'm somehow a racist. It really makes no sense to me.

It also got so much popularity from Trayvon's depiction as some angelic little 12-year-old kid, not the 6'3" 170 lb. athlete he really was. He was suspended 3 times from school, had stolen jewelry, and dealt drugs. (Too lazy to find a source, but this has been verified).

And finally, the case got the most popularity from white guilt. Basically, people don't want to feel racist, so they immediately go against the white guy for killing the black, or, in this case, the half-white, half-hispanic registered democrat with a jewish last name. Hell, even some congressmen tried to charge Zimmerman without any proof whatsoever.

Now, I know racism is wrong, and I don't consider myself to be a racist, but this is the sort of thing that pisses me off. I don't want to say that it was anyone's fault, but I absolutely hate the people who jump to conclusions like this without punishment, such as Nancy Grace, that one anonymous contributor on NBC (who, by the way, wasn't fired), the congressmen. It just sickens me.
