Football is the correct term, don't try to say it is soccer. The arrogant Americans who try to push that word onto other countries makes us look even worse.

-sigh- Only if I could produce a catchy show tune that could explain it better. Americans have a tendency to go imposing what they're language deems acceptable into other countries and cultures. Ergo football/soccer, it's the same fucking thing. But us Americans have to be super special and make our own name for a sport that was already made somewhere else; hence Soccer. However the rest of the world already calls the sport by what it is named, Football. Now you're thinking to yourself 1 of 2 things; 1. "But we already have a sport called Football in America, it involves a field and a weirdly shaped ball; which resembles an ellipse." <--However, a name we can/should call this sport is Pigskin; 2. "Oh, that makes sense." <--If you choose that, then you're in the clear. Ta-fucking-dah.

Actually, the first football association was founded in 1863. However the game was tagged with both "Soccer" and "Football". The first rules for this new "Soccer" game were finally decided at the Freemasons Tavern, in London, on the 26th of October 1836. Ebenezer Cobb Morley also founded the Barnes Football Club, which also had the first ever recorded football match. Although it ended in 0-0 it was still an excellent match. The name "Soccer" comes from the abbreviation of the word "As-soc-iation" and "er", which was made by the English who played it in the public school system. However, it was called Football long before it was named Soccer. So fuck you Anon, get you facts straight. Oh and I could give less of a fuck if you liked football, stop trying to act like you have the better sport. Sports are all equal, people play to have fun; not have contest on who has the biggest goal/ball/team/fanbase/etc...

Obviously you misinterpreted my original comment. I was saying that the brain-dead generation that I have the misfortune to be associated with imposes Soccer onto mostly ever other country.
