Being a furry isn't about sexual preference. It's more about feeling like an outcast in "normal" society, and finding fellowship among other like-minded individuals, like any community outside what is considered "normal". Furries just happen to also find which animal they see themselves as most, and use that to portray themselves, as a way of describing who they are at a glance. In fact, it has almost NOTHING to do with sexual preference, for the most part. There are weird people everywhere, though, which is why you think that. Don't generalize until you've met a sizable and varied test-group.

Yes, that is true. But there is most certainly a sexual element involved. At least if you go by the shear amount of furry pornography on the web. And no, I don't hate them, and I understand that they feel different and alienated from society. There are countless sub-cultures that do the same things furries do, dress in rather radical ways, hang out with the like-minded, and go to conventions, etc. Sub-cultures like ravers, goths, trekkies, punks... But few or non of them are as sexually explicit as the furries. In some ways they are more like a sexuality, like gays or transvestites. But I have never really understood them either, one minute they are like "look, bro. We are just like everyone else" and the next minute they are holding a big extravagant parade or convention and going "HEY, LOOK AT HOW SPECIAL WE ARE!". But as I said, I don't hate furries, or gays, or many others at all, because I think they should be free to do what they want, becaseu they may be weird and hard to understand, but they aren't doing any kind of major damage to society, or her people.

You apparently have not met the furries I have. The "sexual element" you're concerned about is nowhere near as prevelant as you think it is. Yes, there is a disproportionately large amount of explicit art, but there's also a disproportionately large amount of art that is socially acceptable. The reason there's so much explicit material is because more furry artists put their art out there. There just tends to be more talented artists in the furry community than there are in others, because that's one of the very few ways they can safely express themselves. Most of the other sub-cultures express themselves in costume, or music, or literature, and there's just not as much talent for those kinds of things for furries.

I understand that furries have trouble expressing themselves through music. Jumping around on stage in a fur-suit must get really hot. Strumming a guitar while wearing thick gloves can't be easy either.

No, but seriously. I personally haven't talked to any openly furry people face-to-face, But I did regularly chat with one guy like that for a few weeks. Sad story about the guy, he was bipolar, so he had a lot of problems with depression. I tried to help him with that, since I have personal experience with deep depression and suicidal thoughts. About a week I just couldn't get a hold of him, he wasn't online anywhere, and then about 2 weeks later I found of he shot himself. Really sad since he seemed to be such a nice guy.

Well there's your problem. Most furries I know absolutely abhor fursuits. In fact, quite a few of my friends are disgusted with people who wear fursuits, and, rightly, blame them for giving furries such a bad rep. But on the music part, how can you exactly make a song about how you feel when what you relate to most is an animal, often mythological? There's a few successful furry musicians, but very very few.

It's the really hardcore ones with futsuits that creep me out. I think it's the ones with fursuits that most people find it hard to relate to. If they just dressed normally I think furries, even the hardcore ones would get a much less harsh reputation.

Again, those are the extremists, the weird people, and they are everywhere. In a COMPLETELY UNRELATED NOTE: The Walking Dead game is pretty genius, if it was given more space so audio compression didn't ruin the near-perfect voice acting.
