"so i want to understand something: if you believe that 2+2 doesn't equal 5 why do you feel the need to prove it to people unless deep down you are frightened of being wrong"

that's kind of how your logic is working right now. everybody has a drive to perpetuate their own ideals, that's not proof of a subconscious belief that they're wrong.
And most importantly, no atheists are scared that they're wrong. how is eternal life scary compared to eternal non-existence? I'm pretty sure most atheists, or at least I for one, would love for god to be real, but that doesn't prove he's real.

Kevin Barnes on God:
I think every human has some concept of a deity in some form, but not necessarily the old man in the white beard or the Earth mother or whatever it is. Anybody with any sort of imagination probably has some concept of a god figure. But it’s easily rejected, you can go, “Oh, God doesn’t exist,” or "There’s no loving god that cares about humanity." Obviously, there’s no god like that because there’s just so much suffering and needless barbarism. It makes no sense, because if there is a god that cared about humanity none of this would happen. In the back of your mind, you’re still thinking, ”I could be wrong, there could be a god.” But it’s obviously not a compassionate god. It’s kind of funny to me when people believe in a compassionate god, just kind of disregarding everything in reality and thinking, “Oh, no, but there is a compassionate god. God cares, somehow.” It’s just kind of absurd. So I guess a lot of people just need it to not go insane, to not totally lose their grip on reality. Like they need to have that structure. But I don’t really need that structure because I’m more of a realist... The way reality works, everyone has their own perceptions and its totally real. I’ve actually had periods of delusion where I thought something was real and then I had an awakening and realized it wasn’t. So I think people definitely have periods like that, and I’m not going to criticize someone and say that they’re shallow or phony because they have a belief system that’s not what I believe in. I think it’s important for us all to support each other and not choose sides in that way; not divide people in that way.

Hey people there's a wonderful thing called respecting each other's differences. Be respectful or just keep on looking like obnoxious tards.

The books were never the proof of god, but just God's words to the messengers, its our job to go on a path to get to know God, (except the bible cuz it has been mistranslated by many people, original is gone). Only one book is left that hasn't been corrupted...

Don't get me wrong I look at both sides of the argument because I'm not a closed minded moron, but stuff like this has to make you think. (I could post a lot more links but don't want to TL:DR people..)

Problem is there are miracles in every religion. This may be an argument for A god, but not for any specific god.
User avatar #235 to #208 - manofbeardliness (04/22/2012) [-]
Yes this is true, though christianity is the only one with a massiah and is the historically accurate religious books. I could be wrong, but I believe in god and try to follow good morals so I don't really care if it's wrong or right.
#233 to #208 - anonymous (04/22/2012) [-]
Miracles are miracles (there is no denying it), it is up to people to find the one true God if they are really sincere about finding the creator of the universe. Do you own research rather than listening to the media and other people for the truth because they will always be biased. When you find the religion that truly seems like the truth (no unanswered questions or loopholes), then I will truly applaud you. I have found this true religion but I won't tell you because if you are really serious about finding your lord, you will find it on your own. Until then, peace be with you.

My truth is that there is no god able to be empirically demonstrated. Is that a viable answer?

Religion:doing what you are told no matter whats right
Morality:doing whats right no matter what you are told
