thanks. i just really like art and i base my art on ideas. ive done graffiti work as well as classic sculpture and oil paintings. most of what i do is moderately hard to do. but i do some low skill ones, rose made out of wire (little more complicated, but not much) which represent much more than, for example, a sculpture of a fractured head. the low skill art, in this case, is much more powerful as it represents something, suppose to show the beauty of solitude and/or humanities ability to ignore the beauty of others. note: the rose looks depressing, dont want to explain why. it is my idea and i want to keep it like that, sorry.

also am doing as level and A level art this year, ie at the same time. cos i have enough work :), which is the basis for my ideas... sooo much work

this to me shows a raw passionate sexual energy. impounded by the almost phallic shapes incorporated. this shows the sexuality of humanity and its ability to be used to control, hence the violent spike. or at least in my mind.

sit down and think about abstract art. everything has a purpose. a curve, a spike, the slightest roughing of a corner. everything incorporated will compound an idea.
remember: the artists idea is the artists idea, it is no more valuable than your ideas of the same piece. part of the beauty of humanity is that we can see the exact same thing, but see something completely different.

As an alevel art student myself, i disagree. Absract art is just a way Posh wankers can lord art over others. If a working class family goes into an art galery and says something is crap then they're uneducated, if a toff says somethings crap its a good observation of the artwork. The majority of so called "fine art" is little more than the riches play thing to flash their cash with eg tryingto outbid for paintings they dont even want to outdo each other.

Art in the most part is to pretentious, trying to be something above the rest of society and anyone who disagrees gets labelled "uneducated" or some other title, as art has become exclusive, and abstract is the style that is most roped in with the the posh, thats why i prefer artists like the chapman brothers or ernst heakel, you canlook at they're work no matter what your background and get a deffinate feeling from it, Heakle is illustrative and looks incredible,and the chapmans is so viceral and in some works gory you cant escaoe ut feel something, you dont have to ponce arond onhow "every line means something" as thats bullshit and pretentious.

i completely see your point. but that is your personal opinion, ie you prefer classic, style, art or abstract. i prefer surrealism to be very true. but we shouldnt down play another form of art just because we dont like it. i dont particularly like pop art, i see too many formulas displayed in the creation of it. yet i see how beautiful it can be and i see the creativity involved. personally i prefer art which is thought provoking, which has pushed me to abstract and surrealism. all abstract needs is the ability to make opinions based on each detail of a piece. every persons idea will be different about abstract, and all of the same value. this is why i love abstract, its ability for everyone to see something different in it. a true show of our individuality.
you prefer art that makes you feel, i prefer art that makes you think. there is no right answer. both are amazing and just as justified. so why play down the other? it doesnt make you think.

yes a lot of pieces are simplistic to the point of the pathetic. we can see the same in the music scene though. a once good artists got famous and then got shit, we all know some. and the ponsy rich people who pay £40000000 for anything annoy me to fuck, they are a cancer. as, in my view, are all people who conform on creative issues. as conformity destroys the basis of creativity.

Your last comment reminds me of damienhursts for the love of god, a diamons encrusted skull produced for 4 million then was sold on (technicly, though he payed some if it himelf just to beat the record for most expensive sale to a living artist) for 65 million, just because it had his name essentially. When he was asked what was so special about it and why it deserved it one of the questions brought up was "but anyone could have done it" He replied "Yeah but they didn't did they". Not totally relevant but i thought it was a pretty damn clever thing to say on the suject.

And i dont want you to think theres no abstract works i dont like its just the oversimplified stuff that i amnot a fan of, for reasons already stated, but i do like some abprigional work (argubly quite abstract) and if you could consider "Les Fauves" abstract then i really like a lot of their work.

that was a good point, ill give you that one. some of the very simple stuff is very powerful. but i agree some of it is pathetic. i would just argue that you cannot downplay one area of art because it requires less skill. this is similar to a sculpture vs painting argument on the skill front, they cannot be contrasted as the skill sets are different. for realism the physical skill must be perfect. but for abstract the the thought skill must be perfect, although they must also be able to connect this thought with a perfect representation in physical terms.

also abstract artists tend to take a lot of drugs. which is probably why they think that way.

That also might be a reason i am not getting it i have never done drugs, dunno if it would affect it, but it may. I can't beleive that i forgot about edvard munch! He's one of my favorte painters and he's quite abstract in most of his work, Also Escher is abstract as hekand them two are two of my favorites. nobody is ever going to like everything in a style. as nobody will ever like everything in a music genre. but we should keep an open mind about those that we dislike.
also i was into arte povera, like a lot. before i really ever did anything. so i would assume not. although i did get into more abstract after, also 60s art... lots of 60s art is mental. although this could also be put down to my tastes diversifying.

we all have different talents. our individuality makes us special and it is the true basis of humanity being beautiful, in my view. we should all be nurtured to do whatever we want.
the only thing i hate on is someone who is unwilling to learn about something they mock, in this case i would refer you to the picture, but put to modern art.
we all have the ability to do whatever we want. but our skills develop based upon what we are interested in.

if you think thats where you want to go, do it! seriously, we only have a short time on this earth so make it a happy time. you can also go into another area of music other than instruments. you can study righting and make your own personal edge to it (you can also do electronic).

Music is my inspiration. It's cliched but it really is. It's the one thing that keeps me going, and all I want is to be that guy on the radio. Not to party around with cocaine and hookers like a showbiz rockstar, but just so that I can inspire people. I want to give back and inspire people the way that my heroes inspire me. But despite all my attempts, I have no musical talent, it's a painful combo, to suck at the one thing you are passionate about.

People really don't even attempt to understand new things. I'm pretty useless at seeing hidden meanings and the connotations of things (except in music because that's my passion and it's my inspiration) but I don't criticise when other people enjoy it. It's the same in music, people hate on any artist they don't like and they don't stop and think, any artist with a fanbase has a place in the business because people enjoy it. How would you like it if people ripped into your favourite band? Who cares if it's talentless rubbish to you? Some people are casual music fans and just want a catchy pop song, others want complicated deep shit. As you said, individuality makes us special and people should just stop and think to themselves "Ok, well I don't like it, but somebody does, so I'm happy that this song/art piece/poem/novel/almost anything inspires that person, I hope that it brings them joy.

i wouldnt hate on a generalist music taste. unless someone said that, lil wayne for instance, is better than a band that i love. ether pure music talent of creative talent. in this case i will point out how hard it is to create 'insert artist here's style and music. and then go into the different feelings represented. i may then take apart lil waynes rap 'style' and show how he uses a formula to construct his raps instead of pure creativity.

i think that the fact that about 60% of people, in SW England, listen to the charts only as a cancer. they are not individual, that music will not touch all of them, they listen to it as their friends do.

Agreed, nothing wrong with arguing the case for one of your favourite bands. But I think it's important to not criticise the musician/s but criticise the people for not even TRYING to be different. Conformism does nobody any good.

I can definitely see where you are coming from, but electro isn't my thing. I like rock and metal music mostly, with an expression on emotion and absolute passion. My favourite band are a band called InMe, and the reason is that they put 100% of their heart and soul into the songs. I definitely respect every genre of music though, and I appreciate a good musician when I hear one, even if I can't sit down and enjoy a song. Everyones different, and although I keep an open mind, I have high standards on the songs that I sit down to listen to.

i also have high standards. i listen to music that i love and music that makes me feel. hence i have music to incorporate any feeling. i choose the artists that make me feel the most. regardless of genre.

people who judge others based on them being weird simply have their own inhibitions that they cant face, they are small people who are not open enough to learn more about the world. conformists are scared to show who they truly are based on rejection. slowly their individuality fades and they forget who they were.
these are my own cross sections, based on the art ive done on 'what is human' loads of work on conformism and mob mentality as well as eccentrics.
my views are not concrete in any form. they have their own bias, my bias. as i am a cynic i was more likely to find bad things about groups of people.

I agree with you but I believe that some art is just to show the pure raw talent.
Graffiti mostly does have a purpose, and usually does express something.
Most abstract, low skill art is so unpleasing to me. For example at the Chicago Art Institute there was a room full of just blank canvases. I don't think it compares anything to what was in the room above it which was Picasso's Old Guitarist (my favorite painting). What I'm saying is, art doesn't need to have a purpose sometimes, it could just be a showing of their beautiful talent. Not everything you look at needs to be analyzed and picked apart at, why can people not just appreciate art because it is art that appeals to them?

hence the inclusion of to create a feeling. does this beautiful art not make you feel; happy, sad, remorseful?? because of youre comment i would assume it makes you feel a great deal.
i would only pick apart art which makes me think. i would look at why it makes me think. i would not pick apart art that makes me feel. as this gives a mechanical resemblance to the feeling and diminishes it, and therefore also the power of the piece itself.
