Canadian Electrician here. We have different male ends on chords because different countries have a different power supply. Using the wrong one could royally fuck your shit up. Also, with many devices, the plug could be reversible, there is no need for a two prong to have a 'backwards' way, since with AC (Alternating Current), power flows both ways through the circuit, and switches directions about 60 times a second.
