the age is set at twenty one because that is the age that the brain finishes developing

the drinking age is 21 because alcohol affects brain development, and the brain has mostly finished its biggest period of growth by the time you turn 21. It has nothing to do with maturity or decision making.

You do realize that if you join the military you can drink at the age of 18 right?

yeah lets base how smart an entire country is based on the legal drinking age

the brain isn't done developing until you're in your mid 20's. too much alcohol will stop the development of the brain. get over yourself.

all the age limits are based on studies, both my parents are alcoholism and they started drinking at younger ages, this is not true for everyone but it is proven that most people can not safely handle alcohol mentally or physically till 21, Jesus at least Americas trying.

That awkward moment when alcohol is restricted due to medical reasons.

Being from Germany, I can say that you have to be 16 to drink beer and **** , but 18 to drink stronger drinks. And you have to be 18 to smoke. You're welcome ;)

these are getting SO OLD!! we get it, we should be able to drink legally here, but seripously, when has that ever stopped anyone?

The age limit isn't a restriction on maturity, its to insure the unhindered development of the frontal lobe. Europeans have a culture with general acceptance of alcohol, so teens are less likely to drink in excess and injure their development like in the United States

Germany only allows for dual citizenship in very specific cases.

[url deleted]

The US, on the other hand has no limitations on dual citizenship.

The only reason the US government wants the drinking age to be 21 is so that your brain can grow fully( or at least most of the way), not because they think we can't make the right decision.

Drinking puts not just YOU in danger, but everyone else around you..
Don't get all pissy and say "well at 21, its the exact same thing!" its not. 18 and 21 are very different in terms of maturity. The average 18 year old is dumb, irresponsible, and more worried about getting laid than an actual job. a 21 year old is more mature, has a better understanding of the world and how it works. Knows that there are consequences for his/her actions. 3 years changes a lot in people.

Doesn't it say in the G.I. bill that Americans serving in the military under the age 21 are able to buy and drink alcohol

Can't you drink at 18 on base if you're in the US military? My teacher told me he could, but idk if you still can
