i dont know why people say this. to me the skyrim one is much harder. i never broke a single lockpick in oblivion. but in skyrim if you are even a nanometer off on a master lock it breaks. oblivion was all about timing, if you could pace yourself you could do it perfectly. skyrim is just placement, and i personally find that more time consuming.

In oblivion, there are say... 10 different possible "speeds" of the pins going up. The higher your level, the less speeds, until once you are a master, all pins go up the same speed.
In skyrim, with every perk on the lockpicking tree, the sweet spot for lockpicking gets wider and wider, plus, with another perk the lockpick starts closer to the sweet spot. By this, any lock other than master, you can just open it right away, as the "closer to the sweet spot" coupled with the "bigger sweet spot" results in instant success. Master locks are like very easy also
