Jazz is better than Metal... More complex too, from a diatonic standpoint.

So you're basically saying that metal and rock (even though i like both genres) take more talent to play than genres like jazz? I find that hard to believe.

Jazz, blues and classic rock are way harder to play than metal because the require skill and soul and not just skill

this is stupid, jazz is the most intellectual genre next to classical music. It's been the most innovative genre in history.

Fuck you OP, you ignorant piece of shit.
Jazz is the origin of Rock, and is just as hard, if not harder, not play.
Sure there is some bullshit stuff that people like to call Jazz but really isn't, but same goes with metal and rock.
Artists like Benny Goodman, Duke Ellington, and Louis Armstrong are among the greatest musicians the world has known.

I don't even like jazz, but if you've ever played an instrument you will know that jazz is by far the most complicated thing you can play.

Go ahead and them this down if you disagree.... But metal bands having more "talent and skill" than any other genre? Come on... I don't know how much 'talent' you think it takes to growl / scream instead of sing, play power chords really fast on a guitar, and drum really loudly to whiny lyrics about death and angst, but in most cases, it's not much. There's plenty of talented metal bands, I'd say the majority of them are thoroughly untalented teenagers who lack the ability to play any other kind of music.

I'd actually putt Jazz over Metal...any day. I listen to a lot of both and I'd say jazz is the way to go. Also, jazz drumming. Metal can't even touch that shit.

Really? No classics?

Meh. Anyway, I find it that skill and talent are determined by ARTIST, not GENRE

Are you fucking with me? Saying Metal is harder to play than Jazz? Where the hell did you learn to play. Please go try to play some Jazz on Guitar, It's hard as hell. I can play most any metal song because they are generally abunch of power chords and flailing around doing some arpegios for a guitar solo which isn't even hard.... And Rock isn't even hard either. Jazz is one of the hardest types of music to play. I don't even like Jazz but it sure as hell is alot harder to play than Metal.

Excuse me, but I'd like to call bullshit. Jazz musicians require a lot of skill and practice, seeing as jazz is usually an improvised type of music and doesn't generally have any pattern. I'm not saying rock and metal don't require talent to play, because they do, but this is a pretty biased post seeing as that's probably OP's favorite genre of music. Rock music is usually just a basic chord progression that occasionally changes during the bridge and chorus, but jazz and blues definitively take more knowledge to perform. I've been listening to every genre of music except hip-hop for years. Everything from Death metal to country to 80's rock and roll to jazz to indie music. I've played guitar for 9 years, and the piano for 4. Just sharing my opinion.

I would normally allow you to put metal above rock if it weren't for one thing, you labeled the y axis "Skill and Talent" and not something like "I enjoy listening to" or "Deserving of existence" .

"Hi, I know nothing about music other than my own washed up retarded opinion. I don' play any musical instrument but if I did all I would play is metal because that's all I give too shits about and I will remain blissfully unaware of every other genre and live in my own little world where Jazz is easy to play(You're fucking retarded if you really think that btw) because I'm totally full of my self and have no regard for anything other than myself and what makes me happy"-OP
