Simply because science has the capacity to change based on new evidence that may arise in the future.

so if that is the case then science should not be taken so seriously if new evidence can be shown to prove that there is a creator instead of just accident

I don't understand your point about the flagellum. It's not a cell, and it's not proof of God.

the flagellum is a tail that rotates like a propeller it has to be of intelligent design because of the way it works and how it is powered

No. It is not about "being a good person." It is about being so very changed by the Holy Spirit that you want to do nothing more than be a good person. It is not something that we can achieve on our own, that is why Jesus died on the cross so that we could fulfill what could not be fulfilled without his death, burial and Resurrection. There is one baptism and transformation and we are all invited to accept it. Confessing your sin is not enough. It requires changing your heart and being made new so that you do not want to do anything less than what is considered "relatively perfect" which is loving God with an undivided heart and our neighbor (everyone) unselfishly. Heaven is not something that is to come, it is something that is both already and not yet. It has arrived when Jesus died and rose and it is still to come when he comes back to establish his perfect Kingdom which has already been established through our acceptance of the invitation to be transformed.

Different sects of different religions have different ideas on what's required to make it to their version of heaven. Some require simply confessing your sins and believing. Others are more strict.

I'd rather be an atheist that lives by morals and common sense than some stupid ass christian that hates gays and people of other beliefs. And if there was a God I think he would be a bit disappointed that we all took a book for granted without actually reading it, or questioning how it got there in the first place.

I appreciate what you say. I am a Theology Major and I agree with you 100%. I come from what is called the Wesleyan tradition, a holiness tradition. This is not a "holier than thou" tradition, it is a "bearing the image of God" tradition that views everyone as people and wants all to come to Christ. I do not hate gays or anyone who is not a Christian. I love them the same way I would want to be loved by others, regardless of what I have done. I am sorry that you have such a negative view of Christians. This is not what Jesus would have wanted, and I do not want that either. So, could we agree that we are both on the same team to some extent? We want to see the world become a better place, we just don't agree on all points of morality. I do find homosexuality a sin, but that is not going to stop me from allowing someone a state constitutional right to be married. Presidents swear on the Bible to uphold the Constitution, not on the constitution to uphold the Bible. Not all Christians hate gays and people of other beliefs dumbass. The Bible says that homosexuality is a sin but not to hate those who do that sin. Only ignorant people who don't fully understand their religion are the ones persecuting others and condemning them to hell, when if they would just read the bible they would see that even God told them to not persecute their fellow man, leave it for God to sort out who the sinners are.

However scientists, that are working in fields, that are deeply concerned with the questions of existance will more often than not reject deities. (Take for example bunch of smartest most prominent physicists. Most are atheist.
Take some of the smartest minds in medicine - they too long ago have dropped the idea of god. The problems to be solved are too complicated to elave anything to simple premieval feeling. )

It's just a clash of cultures to be honest. Atheists have a belief systems than relies purely on what Science says is the logical answer. Christians have a belief system that relies purely on faith in a higher power.

i dont really have the facts on me all the time. you really dont have to be so critical, i just find th beliefs very hard to believe, and with little to no backing. much of the writings of the four authors have different takes on the storys, and conflicting statements.

I'm not trying to tear you down, I just go head-on with people who make grandiose statements like "religion being disproven". I could try to level with you philosophically; convey the reason for my sentiments lying with Christianity rather than against it, but that's a different topic (although it's relevant to why I'm challenging you).

Funny how you mention blind faith. A common factor that affects both fundamentalists and devout Atheists is exactly that. They both put their fingers and their ears and say "blah, blah, blah" whenever confronted with an argument. They lach on to their views and are utterly subjective, or at least in my experience.

As for the testaments, they don't so contradict each other as much as they give different perspectives. You'll have to be more specific, because facts are essential when you're in an argument.

I never said I was Christian. Spiritually, I'm strongly Agnostic, but I do identify myself with Christianity in many terms. Officially, I call myself a Christian, but it's solely on an intellectual level. I'll get back to that later.

You ask me why one should pick the Bible, and not the Koran or the Torah (and I'm assuming any other religious scriptures out there). This is a typical standpoint of many people, understandably of course.
Let me start by saying this: Christianity is the only faith where I find God to truly be Godly. This God, though wrathful in the OT, has such an immense love for his creations. The Greeks called this love agape, and being limited by mortality we can't quite understand it. The words of the Bible are filled with rich metaphors and beautiful language, but so do the words of the Koran. However, in the Bible, they go beyond poetry. This agape rings true throughout the Bible.
On that note, let me answer your next question. Why does God need symbolism? Why the theater? Well, it's simple: for us. We are small; we're finite. But we're part of something infinite. In his love, he creates a scenario that we can comprehend, something that touches the magnitude of his love for us. It's such a perfect metaphor. In fact, so perfect I find it hard to believe that a group of Galilean peasants would be able to compose it. We're easily corrupted, small-minded beings, but we have free will. We have the power to chose between darkness and light. God needed to make a clear line, something we could relate to.

I will admit that I don't exactly have "God in my heart". I don't have faith like the rock of Gibraltar. But I can't help but admire on a purely intellectual level what Christianity has accomplished and provided. It has provided a moral basis for our society, one which has allowed us to flourish. The West is unprecedented, something must be different this time.

P.S. Don't confuse Christianity with the Church.
