The Bushmaster ACR is available to the public. Even guns known for their high rates of fire have semi automatic versions that can be legally purchased- such as the p-90.

If people are intent on breaking the law, then they're going to break whatever other laws impede that final goal as well. Most people purchase weapons like that for recreational use- target shooting, civilians can generally only acquire a weapon like that in semi automatic. But with that said, when gangs start fighting in the streets with illegally acquired automatic weapons, like they do, I'd rather have a semi automatic rifle with enough rounds to handle against them than just a handgun were it to come to that.

Unlike Europeans, we dont flip the fuck out when a inconvenient law is passed, such as extending the retirement age limit by a few years. Nothing that would have severely compromised our freedoms as been passed, such a bill would be like "Food and water will be rationed, you may not grow your own food or buy from sources that are not directly from the government." or "All citizens are subject to house and vehicle searches when ever officers of the law feel like it" These laws dont quite exsist here, and never really have made an effort to. Shows how effective it is to have an AR doesn't it?
Also do you even know what a gang is? Its usually more than just 1 person, and in places like LA or new York, they tend to have submachineguns like an uzi. Try fighting off three people wielding automatic weapons that have 20-30 round clips with just a kitchen knife...

who said you were in an alleyway? Im talking about home defense, where you would keep the gun. Who the fuck even goes in a dark alley way? Go through your provided scenario with out a gun? That leaves you raped robbed and bleeding to death... VS having a gun like a side arm which you shouldn't be leaving home without if you planned on walking down a dark alleyway at night like a fucking moron. You still have better chances of killing them than if you had a knife.

I'm not saying you should use the gun immediately as if you are a super soldier vigilante. The smart thing to do would be to run hide and then use the gun to spring a trap if you are found. Plus if you were being approached by three armed individuals you could get someone else to call the cops by firing your weapon and running away to hide while they took cover from being shot at. Gangs don't buy their guns legally... especially in places where you have to register it. They want the upper hand against the police and other gangs.

If you have a gun, you have a hell of a lot better chances of fighting off a group of thugs if they are trying to rob/rape you and your family. Vs call the cops and hope they get there in less than 2 minuets as the gangsters are knocking down your front door... Shotguns also have a pretty good way of scaring intruders with just the sound the pump action makes.
And are you fucking serious? What fucked up nation are you in where the Military is sworn to defend the government from the people? The US military is sworn to defend the people from threats both foriegn and domestic. The government could try to order them to fire upon US citizens, but it would only end up with the troops turning the fuck around to fire at the congress building.
