Because Ice Cube is awesome, that's why ;P I thought it would work best if it were one of the great old-school rappers telling off Lil Wayne, and I happened to have a picture of Ice Cube handy, so it worked out.

But if I was to name an old school rapper off the top of my head I'd say Rakim or maybe KRS-ONE, both are rappers that really influenced many other artists that came in the 90's

in my opinion Ice Cube was never that good, I think he was the most talented rapper in NWA but I think they're overrated as fuck. He had a few classic tracks like Today Was a Good Day and his album Amerikkka's Most Wanted was amazing but he fell off pretty bad after the release of Death Certificate, making shitty films and all that, sorry bout the rant

I wanted to go with someone more people would recognize. Rakim and KRS are definitely incredible; I can tell you know your classic rap.

Yeah rap would be most of what I listen to, I proper love the old school style from the late 80's such as Big Daddy Kane or the hardcore Wu-Tang style,I listen to some underground also, Tonedeff has some amazing tracks
i actually haven't listened to many new Ice Cube songs so I wouldn't have much of an opinion on him

Have you ever listened to Kool G Rap? He's another one of those rappers who never seems to get widespread praise but had tremendous influence.....I remember the great Vinnie Paz described him as "the greatest rapper to ever pick up a microphone". Live And Let Die was an incredible album.

I will admit, my first time through "I Am The West" I was sitting there thinking, "My God, Cube, what the hell have you done to yourself?!" It's grown on me, though. He shows a lot of venom for the "new school" rappers, which I can more than sympathize with.

I'd actually find it pretty hard to make a list of rappers that are still good to this day... there are rapper's with talent such as Hopsin but he just bit Eminem's old style (who I think bit Masta Ace)
Hopsin's not a very good example but I don't pay much attention to current rap

I couldn't agree with you more wholeheartedly about the respect thing. I've never really wanted anything more than respect from people; popularity I couldn't give a damn for, because it can really end up screwing with your peace of mind more than anything else. It's why I'll never understand all the Justin Bieber/Lil Wayne fans who love to declare everyone "jealous" of their money and popularity.....why would I be jealous of someone who fronts like mad and ends up not contributing jackshit of lasting value to their craft?

Current rap really is a mess. It's become kind of a silly cliche to say that Eminem is "the only good rapper" in the game today, but when most of the stuff that gets popular looks like Young Money and Waka Flocka Flame and White Girl Mob, it's easy to see why people say it - whatever you might say about Em, you've got to give him credit for pouring his guts out into his lyrics and still managing to stay popular with young people.

I know it's a cliche, but I think that even though he's probably a multi-multi-millionaire by now, Lil Wayne can not be happy in himself. He has money, he can get girls, yeah he has some bling, but he must sometimes hear a real rap song, let's say Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five's The Message, in my opinion one of the most complete rap songs of all time, and unless he really is as stupid as he seems, he must say to himself in his head "Am I actually influencing music in a good way like this did?" He must know somewhere in his head that he is just burying Hip Hop even further.

funny that you'd say that actually because about 8 months ago i was completly obsessed with Eminem (I got onto Nas through him since and then Wu-Tang and now i know hip hop inside out)

I give him credit for being a talented wordsmith maybe 13 years ago but now his punchlines are just painful: "they'll never ketchup to all this energy that I've mustard"

what i dont like about him is that even though he goes on about how people put him down because he's white you can tell that he's cocky in himself for being the biggest white rapper ever, then you look at the beastie boys who were white and in the rap business, they just had fun and kinda acted like "fuck it we're white so what" not making a big deal about it at all
