I've never played it either.

They spent years promising tons of diverse endings that would reflect the choices we made, but there were only three endings and the only obvious difference between them was the color of the explosion.

The cloned Rachni queen is indoctrinated, and will betray you. To get the Rachni Assets, you need to have made the choice to save the Rachni queen on Noveria.

Your choices didn't change the ending, but... duh? I wasn't exactly expecting Conrad Verner to pop outta nowhere to save the world because I was nice to him. Each choice you made throughout the series reached it's own, satisfying conclusion, completely separate from the main series ending.

Fill me in on those plot holes.

And one thing that was defined from the beginning is that the war with the Reapers would be costly. The Relays were THEIR system. Of COURSE they wouldn't just leave them for you out of convenience, especially after you just, in their eyes, caused the end of the universe. I see no problem there.

And for the record, if you "only get a few races to play ball," you don't have as many choices for your ending, and the endings will be sadder. In order for Shepard to survive, you're going to pretty much need everyone.

The only bullshit thing about this game, for me, is that you absolutely HAVE to do the multiplayer to get the best endings, when they said they wouldn't.

5.) Why is the Illusive Man at that part in the Citadel at the end? How did he get there? ...Huh?!

6.) How come Shepard, of all people, finally meets the reason behind the Reapers, his source of turmoil and despair for a solid three years, and he just believes everything that little blue fxcker says? That's not like Shepard. Why would he just take his word for it?

7.) The catalyst, at the end, says that there will never be peace between synthetics, and that it's inevitable. First of all, it's no big secret that it's hard to keep peace between ORGANICS, let alone synthetics too. Uh, I don't know about anyone else but in my game, the geth and quarians ended the war and began living together in peace. So doesn't that basically refute everything the catalyst said?

These are the plot holes I can think of at the top of my head. And writing it out made me feel alot better.

People are just mad because they've invested a lot of money, time, and emotion into these games and these characters and the entire story, being told that the decisions you make will ultimately affect the kind of ending you get, that they will all be different. Then, at the end, the endings are *legitimately* the exact same. (They are, on youtube there is a video playing all the endings side by side and the only thing different is the color.) That's a slap in the face to every devoted fan that's cared about these games.

5. The Reapers brought him there in case Shepard made it, so he could persuade Shepard to not destroy them.

6. Why would Shepard hear Tali's recording of a guy saying Reapers once, and then begin his lifelong crusade and instantly believe what the recording said? When it comes to the Reapers, Shep will believe ANYTHING.

7. The Catalyst knew it was wrong. That's why it just let Shepard make a decision in the first place.

Every "plot hole" you've said is easily explained, or not even a plot hole. And what people fail to see is the far-reaching consequences beyond the endings. There's a major difference in the future, depending on your ending. We just don't get to see it, because Shepard's story is over. When an inevitable non-Shepard focused sequel is made, we may see the consequences of our actions.

Hey, you asked for the plot holes so I'll tell them to you, don't take it the wrong way though.

1.) Casey Hudson specifically said (as did other producers) that we wouldn't get an A, B, C ending that everyone else gets. That's completely what we got.

2.) Now for the plot holes, oh god this is gonna be hard since there are so many, but uh. Okay, as we learned in the Arrival DLC, the destruction of a mass relay will destroy the ENTIRE system around it. By this logic, wouldn't almost the entire milky way be destroyed (along with everyone and everything in it) no matter what ending you choose?

3.) Let's say you brought all the krogan, most of the asari, most of the salarian, all the geth, all the turians (since most of them are in the military), and ALL the quarians (because every single one is in the fleet, and quarians on their pilgrimage were called back to the fleet at the beginning of the game) to the last fight for Earth. Well...the mass relays were destroyed. They are ALL stranded in the Sol relay. Do you think the depleted and destroyed Earth will have enough resources for 4-5 species? Let's not forget that Turians and Quarians can't even eat human food, so once their food is gone, it's gone, and they won't have enough for the decade or so it will take using FTL speeds to go back to another planet that will have dextro amino food. Sorry Tali, guess you aren't getting that house on your homeworld after all.

4.) Why on earth is the normandy trying to escape the blue/red/green explosion at the end? And why did my squad (that were coming with me to the beam that were "completely decimated") come out of the Normandy at the end at that planet in timbuktu? The mass effect universe does not have teleporters, and the normandy was last seen on Earth, and if we all know Shepard's crew, we know that they would *never* just abandon Shepard. So...the reason why they were even not on Earth in the first place is completely left out and not explained.

1. Can't argue that.

2. They didn't get destroyed in the same way. They really just kind of fell apart, instead of the super-explosion nuke.

3. That's not a plot hole, it's a sad plot point. I didn't like it =/= plot hole.

4. "GROUND TEAM FAILED, EVERYONE LEAVE EARTH, THAT'S AN ORDER."

That would've been fine and all if the exploding mass relays didn't take out all of the systems they were in (in the Arrival DLC of ME2 they mention the destruction of a Mass Relay would destroy the system it's in), so no matter what ending you choose, everyone dies anyway. THE FUCKING END

P.S. I did thoroughly enjoy ME3 up until the ending; would've been one of my favs otherwise.

ACTUALLY, the ending wasn't meant to be what it was, in fact it was changed at the last second due to the ending script being leaked sometime before release.

Just saying.

Oh, and synthetics being made to kill organics so organics aren't killed by synthetics makes no fucking sense. BioWare must have had something better than that...or so I hoped.

And one more thing, because you happened to like the worst ending a lot of us has ever witnessed in a sci-fi, award-winning game, don't flop it out and tell everyone like you're some superior being, we get it, you liked it, but we didn't, so that supposedly makes us a bunch of immature cry babies? We've been reasonable, we've given valid points as to why the ending was mediocre at best, we've raised over 80K for charity, and hell, when your fans have to rewrite your ending, or make up ideas so that your ending makes sense, it's a sign of how bad it is. So I'll just say it here, we've been loyal long enough to BioWare, no, to MASS EFFECT, great story, amazing everything, is it just TOO much to ask for a decent ending, not an entirely new game, but something that gives decent closure? I'm sure it's not, 60$ for each of the three games plus any (if all) the DLC's to date, pricing for a decent ending should be reasonable, if not, a nice, "thanks for the ride" gift. So whether or not wanting a decent, sensible conclusion, that's up to you, but if you're not with us, then please, step aside, we have a story to see come to an end it deserved.

Yes, the game itself was some of the best moments of gaming I've ever had, but the end... not only didn't make sense, but completely slapped the gamer in the face.

If you honestly can't see how it's bad, I'm not sure you're as attached to the story as the "whiners" are. Either that, or you didn't pay attention/play an of the DLC packages that sheds a lot of light on the rest of the... well, everything that is Mass Effect.

Part I: The only other form of travel is FTL, or Faster Than Light.

It would still take decades to reach the home planets of all the species, such as Thessiea, Tuchanka, and Palavan.

Now let's assume the travel anyway:

1) How would they have enough fuel to do so, when they packed enough just to reach Earth (by Mass Relay, so really, nothing)

2) If they stayed, how would there be enough room for billions of other species, let alone species like the Turian and Quarian who can't even eat the same food. Not to mention how eager the Krogan must be to repopulate, and how quickly they can do so?

So there, that theory is highly unlikely.

The Mass Relays were built by none other than the Reapers, and wouldn't you know it, so was the Citadel. The Protheans, however, were the first to discover it, and the Asaris after them.

So what "failsafe" would be had by the Crucible? Did not the Arrival DLC explicitly explain that the destruction--in any way, shape, or form-- of a Mass Relay would result in a supernova explosion regardless, killing off that Nebula?

"Failsafe" is an easy way out in terms of writing. The Mass Relays were destroyed no matter what. And now that everyone is (theoretically) dead, how the HELL did Joker and your crew survive, the same crew that was fighting alongside you on Earth?

Part II: (I just copied the rest into this, if you've read all of it, hats off to you!)

Face it, the ending was hideously slapped together. It spat in the face of its players, failed on the promise of "16 different endings," and contradicted itself in so many ways possible that it's embarrassing.

However, though my beef is with the ending, I got the "canon" ending, where you see Shepard's torso take a quick, shallow breath. I have full faith they'll explain everything in DLC.

As for "canon," stating that the "best ending" is Green (synthesis), that doesn't mean true. In both the Blue and Green endings, Shepard explicitly dies. However, in the Red ending, he's alive.

By saying "best," they mean happiest. Joker living happily with EDI? The world finally at peace? Sure, that's the happy, "best" ending.

But what the FUCK is the point of it when you could've done that all along? What was the point of fighting for humanity and the freedom of all organics if the fucking Reapers were right all along?

It was the opinion of some higher-level AI that organics need to be controlled, and somehow, Shepard just accepts it?

There are no "canon" endings in games like these. They also wouldn't make a specific action that is either renegade or paragon in a game like this the "canon" ending. Shep taking a breath means that he survived. It's more pointing toward the renegade/ selfish nature of that specific ending. Also, was it necessary to jump into cursing and flaming of the guy? It kinda belittled your own point.

I agree with you on one or two parts and him on others, but overall liked all the endings even if they weren't the best ever and loved the game. Though, I did like the idea of a containment field, it kinda makes sense.

It still doesn't make sense for Shepard to be shown alive if they wouldn't go on with it.

If anything, it'd be a waste of money, and the hopeful would be angry for their failed promise. And with the ending of a game like ME3, or three very different yet vastly similar endings, there probably is a "right" and "wrong" ending.

Like I said, there would be no point in showing Shepard if they wouldn't branch off and go with that.

As for being the "Renegade and selfish ending," that's also major slap in the face to the players.

They are, in essence, saying that you, the player who has been fighting this enemy for five years and three games, were wrong all along and that the admirable and respectable Anderson was a "bad" person.

Again, it just simply doesn't make sense, but that's why I'm hopeful for DLC. I'd rather they not entirely change the ending, but instead, enlighten us as players as to what the hell we just witnessed. You can't deny they left out quite a lot, but I still think it was supposed to be like that all along.

Also, BW explicitly stated after after ME1 was released that this was a trilogy. After 2 they reiterated that 3 was the last one. They recently stated again that this was the last of Shep's adventures but there would be more in the ME universe. The ending of the "Let me tell you another story" is only alluding to the beginning of another new game to see the other options. These are like alternate universes of each other.

I don't think he belittled you at all. I think he was saying, much like what I think, that people that demand a NEW ending are selfish and whiny. I don't really even see where he said anything bad about you. Then again, there are so many different anons talking on this thread, I could have missed it in the torrent. I personally wouldn't mind clarification, but think that giving a new ending would set a very bad precedent. Also, renegade is not "bad/ evil" and paragon is not good/ benevolent. Never has been that way. Anderson is a bit renegade in this respect, but it's not a black and white scenario. A person can do a renegade act without being a full renegade, just like paragon.

I'm not saying that Renegade meant "bad" and that Paragon meant "good," but giving the definitions of both, one could argue that Paragon is the nicer way of dealing with things. Still, that's what's so great about Mass Effect: the grey. Hardly ever is there a black and white outlook on the situation.

Yet, it seems like the ending put those notions out of the darkness and into the life of irrefutability. Yet the AI God-Child seemed to show that the Red, Anderson-related ending was the worst way to go, and the Blue, Illusive Man-related ending was a good option.

Alas, color coordination is the least of my concerns. I say as long as BioWare gives closure, clears up the mud, and explains the Mass Relays (NO MORE INTERACTION BETWEEN SPECIES?!), I'll be happy.

Destroying the geth along with the reapers, especially after you find out they aren't bad at all and are victims, plus the fact that paragons make them a fully independent minded species is kinda renegade, but not "bad".



I also agree with one or two of them on the synthetic/ organic synergy part that they'd have the knowledge to recreate the mass relays because of the communal thought and communication between everyone, including the reapers.

Science has actually proven that it would takes years to reach one star or the next, even being faster than light.

Still, that containment field holds some value. But who's to say they thought that the destruction of the Mass Relays was possible, or would happen? Even the Protheans didn't know what it was capable of.

Some people are screaming, sure, but, to me at least, it's more about how they promised that your choices would affect the ending, hell, they even promised "radically different endings", when what they gave us essentially was just one real ending with different colored explosions and minor tweaks, also it just feels sort of pointless to make a journey which is 90% about choice when you know nothing you choose will make a difference in the end.

And ME3 is virtually flawless, right up until its ending, I'm not complaining about the game as a whole, just the ending was abhorred because it left us with more questions than answers and made no real sense, what everyone expected from the ending was just anything that would've tied things up, something simple even like what Fallout does, telling you what your decisions did and how it affected the future, a sad ending is one thing, but we got no closure out of it whatsoever. We shouldn't have to buy DLC to get something so simple as that.

Despite the ending, Mass Effect has been one of the greatest games I've had the honor of playing.

Right up until the point the catalyst was introduced, I had sustained an erection for the entire playthrough. Then that hologram opened his stupid face, and I've been flaccid ever since.

Garrus should help co-calibrate the ending, he's got the best experience in the field.
