Retard isn't offensive. Half of the retards don't even know what it means. And the other half use that word. It's the people who think it's offensive that need to lie about it hurting special kids. If you called a special kid retarded with the happiest voice they probably wouldn't know the difference. Just like a dog does.

People who think it is usually have a special-needs person that is close to them, and they get all aggravated even though said- special needs person probably won't take any offense to it or even care.

I think we're on different pages. I'm more along the lines of DS. You are leaning more towards Autism. I don't think autistic kids are retarded in the least. But if you don't like the label "retard", then why are you putting autistic kids into the category?

If you want to say that, there are indeed DS people who have enough mental capacity to understand that being retarded is a bad thing. I consider autistic kids "retarded" because they're mentally less capable than normal people. It's different when I refer to "retard" because I am not using it in a negative connotation.
