It could be said that the typical band actually loses money by fussing so much about piracy.
This guy will get more fans because he is making his music accessible to more people. Those people will pay for concerts, albums, and merchandise in the future.
If he had been a dick about making sure everyone paid for his music, no one would know who he is and he would have no chance of getting anywhere.
The increased publicity and exposure from making your music available like this is far more valuable than a few record sales.
