hur dur i think i know the army but dont even realize the name tape (not plate you dipshit) is on the wrong side. part of our trouble with people in iraq and afghanistan is that they cant see our eyes and wear so much so when we go talk to someone in a safer environment we take it off

Have you ever seen footage of soldiers defending outposts in areas like Korangal Valley? Half of the time they're wearing their vests with no BDUs or shirts on, usually they're wearing shorts which aren't standard uniform and they might not even have shoes on. Eye protection is either optional, or officers probably don't really care. Chances are the nameplate was "WESOME" and somebody changed it after the picture was realized. The chances of him receiving a rash or disease from the cat are highly unlikely unless it bites him and penetrates skin.
those people were defending a position, they live there, often your base will get attacked when you are asleep and you won't have time to get dressed, or its fucking hot and your superiors wont care if you are wearing pt shorts because pants don't stop bullets anyway. this guy looks to be on patrol, in full uniform, which is jacked up
Dude... dude stop.
In a warzone, the only uniform is battle-rattle and ACUs. I know this from experience... that experience being 2 tours in Iraq.
Gloves are optional, goggles are optional and rolled up sleeves are as common as the clap on a Filipino hooker.

While it is true that I may have exaggerated the similarities between Korengal and his position I still think that he won't receive a punishment. I've been learning about military for the past few years as I've thought about applying for 19k to be an Armor Crewman. But if you're currently in or have served in the armed forces you probably know more about the regulations than I do.
I have been there and done that, and he is full of shit. The only time uniform really matters is when you are CONUS or on a military installation like Rammstein AFB in an allied country.
In a warzone, a lot of shit flies because there are bigger issues than a soldier taking a breather with his chin strap undone.
And the worst punishment possible is a "counseling statement" which is about as effective as slapping someone on the wrist.

I would probably guess maybe he has been engaged in combat quite a lot that day and has taken his chin strap off to cool his head, soldiers also do not constantly wear eye protection, i would also say he took off his gloves and rolled his sleeves up for the purposes of rescuing and holding the cat, then someone on the internet has taken his real name plate, having seen how awesome this guy is, and put the word awesome over it, much in the same way you have with "The Game,". Thats how i saw it anyway.

1. As if they wear eye protection all the time.
2. Obviously off duty
3. ^
4. There is someone who's last name is "Batman" in my town, there is always someone with an odd name.
5. Just shut up.
6. Because people who get kicked out of the army totally stay in the Middle East.
7. Obvious germaphobic kid who would be scared by a butterfly.

Almost all deployed units make there soldiers wear eye protection when not in their living quarters. Army regulation dictates that the the chinstrap of the ballistic helmet be worn at all times unless you are john wayne. AR-670-1 also says that if you are not special fprces you don't roll up your sleeves. Furthermore stray animals in 3rd world countries are not like american pets they are not clean. my buddy who was wearing gloves while touching a puppy on base touched the pup to his face for a picture and had to get medical attention. and finally those who think that his name is actually awesome or that it is photoshopped are misinformed, he is wearing a joke nametape because he could get in deep shit for what he's doing, that is the point i was trying to make , not that this picture is not funny or cute, it is.

When I get into the Rangers, and then when I am ready to leave, I am totally going to take up space and stay at a firebase.
